logo_assocMany do not know Pietro De Stephanis (1807-1894), one of the most important figures in the history of Pettorano.

Born in the early 1800s, he practiced as a notary at the same time cultivating a passion for classical studies and, as a scholar, he left valuable contributions to the culture of Abruzzo, though unrecognized by most.

Animated by a secular and liberal spirit, was several times Mayor and City Council of Pettorano and in the latter role, in 1865 made vote by City Council on an agenda against the death penalty: for the era certainly a revolutionary event, revealing the sensitivity of the man. And it is for the attention that Pietro De Stephanis has addressed to the problems of working class people, for the sensitivity to issues like the death penalty, which are ignored by the countries considered advanced still today, for its being a "world citizen” while living in one of the most marginal placeof the planet, we have dedicated our association to him.

We believe it is appropriate recognition to a man who has given so much to our village.

To enable everyone to learn more about this extraordinary man, in the download section we publish (in Italian), in addition to his biography, a series of documents of Peter De Stephanis, recovered by our association and other materials related to studies and researches on his figure and his work.
